When I heard the news that Deliciously Ella was bringing out her own granola and muesli range, I couldn’t contain my excitement! Since entering adulthood, strangely I have become a massive breakfast fan. I say strangely as I used to absolutely hate breakfast as a teenager. I would go to school with my stomach full with nothing more than a biscuit and half a cup of tea. That was before I discovered Pinterest and bloggers such as Deliciously Ella who open the doors to a whole new realm of possibilities.
My go to breakfast at the moment is granola. Unlike regular cereal, I love how granola contains real fruit and nuts that provide so much more flavour. The struggle comes when you are faced with hundreds of different granola products in the supermarket with each brand promising you less sugar or more fibre. Many have hidden sugars and preservatives so it can be hard to know if your bowl of granola is doing more harm than good.
In comes Deliciously Ella! Renowned for using her creativity to lead a plant based diet; she creates dishes and products that are bursting with flavour whilst leaving out the nasties. I’ve tried a couple of her homemade granola recipes before and they were nice but lets face it, they were a lot of effort! So to make life easier for us lazy people, she’s brought three flavours of granola and muesli to the shelves: Original Granola, Nutty Granola and Bircher Muesli.
The Original Granola
Ingredients: Gluten free rolled oats, date syrup, raisins, almonds, sunflower oil, maple syrup, sunflower seeds, orange juice, pumpkin seeds, desiccated coconut chips, ground cinnamon.
Verdict: If you are a lover of a good, classic granola then this one is for you. Unlike other brands, this is full of flavour and it doesn’t leave you short of a raisin. I’m not a massive fan of raisins, particularly in the morning as it’s too much effort to be picking raisins out of my teeth at 7am. However, all you raisin lovers won’t be disappointed with the quantity in your bowl. You can really taste the cinnamon coming through and the almonds give it a slight marzipan taste. This is a great one for the autumn.
Star Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Nutty Granola
Ingredients: Gluten free rolled oats, cashews, flaked almonds, date syrup, sunflower oil, maple syrup, roast hazelnut pieces, sunflower seeds, orange juice and pumpkin seeds.
Verdict: Love, love, love this one! I have to admit that I’m such a fan that I had it for breakfast AND lunch one day. Crushing the hazelnuts first before tossing them with the other ingredients gives this granola such a rich, nutty taste in each bite. I’m a huge fan of cashew nuts as well which give the bowl a slight sweet taste without the hidden sugars. Golden and crunchy, it’s hard not to fill your bowl to the brim with this one!
Star rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Bircher Muesli
Ingredients: Gluten free rolled oats, dried apple, raisins, sunflower seeds, chia seeds and freeze dried raspberries.
Verdict: I’ve never been a huge fan of muesli, I always usually go for a granola, but I thought I would try this one to see if I could make up my mind once and for all. I was pleasantly surprised. I find I have to put quite a lot of milk into the bowl so the muesli can take on a nice, creamy texture, but once it’s there it’s really scrummy. The apple and raspberries add a nice sweet touch and the chia seeds ensure to tick the superfood box. I think the Bircher Muesli will make a great breakfast in the winter when you can warm up by using hot milk.
Overall, I think this is a fantastic range and I will definitely continue to buy these granolas and the Bircher Muesli. They come from a trusted source and as you can see from the ingredients, there are no hidden ingredients, just good, honest food. Since eating these for breakfast, I have definitely noticed an improvement in my energy levels and a bowl will see me through until lunchtime. I also add a banana and a tablespoon of peanut butter on the top just to give my breakfast that extra something.
