I have read a lot about Bootea. I first came across it in a celebrity gossip magazine – all the celebs were constantly raving about it by posting pictures on their Instagram and Twitter accounts. Curiosity overcame me and I decided to do a bit of googling into this “Teatox”.
For those of you who have no idea what I am talking about, Bootea is a tea detox designed to cleanse your body, improve your metabolism, even out the skin and feed your body with essential nutrients. The tea detox comes in two forms: the 14 day detox and the 28 day detox. You can order the product directly from their website or it is available in Holland and Barrett for £19.99.
I decided to order the 14 day detox as a first timer. My detox pack arrived in the post and included 14 teabags labelled ‘daytime cleanse’ and 7 teabags labelled ‘night time cleanse’. The daytime tea bags are made up of Chinese Oolong tea, Mate leaves, Ginger root, Fennel seeds, Lemongrass, Dandelion leaf, Ginseng root, Gotu Kola leaves and Nettle leaves. The night time tea bags are made up of Senna leaves (a natural laxative), Peppermint leaves, Fenugreek seeds, Liquorice root, Burdock root, Hawthorn leaves, Valerian root, and Psyllium seeds. So as you can see, all natural ingredients!
All the instructions are on the back of the packets but it is very simple. Every morning for 14 days you have a cup of tea using a daytime tea bag and every other night before you go to sleep you make a cup of tea using the night time tea bag. The daytime tea is designed to suppress hunger and feed your body with essential nutrient. The night time tea acts as a natural laxative so is designed to allow you to go the toilet when you wake up and flush out your body.
When I woke up on the first morning of my detox, I was actually quite nervous to try my first tea! I’m very much a builders tea kinda girl and have not branched out into the world of herbal teas so had no idea if I was going to like it or not. Surprisingly, I found it very tasty! You can taste all the natural ingredients and it has an amazing aroma to it.
Now a lot of you might have read up on Bootea and have been put off by the laxative effect of the night time cleanse. Trust me, I was too and it wasn’t until I had done a lot of research that I decided to just go for it. So many people out there have written reviews saying that the night time tea is extremely unpleasant, that they had excruciating cramps for days and they did not leave the toilet. I did not experience any of this.
I woke up after my first night time cleanse fully expecting to be rushing to the toilet but I was absolutely fine! The only explanation I can think of for those people who experienced bad side effects was that they weren’t eating properly. To achieve maximum results whilst on the detox, you need to ensure you are clean eating. This means no meat, no alcohol and no fatty foods. I did exactly that. I cut out meat completely, ate plenty of fruit and veg and only drank water. I assume that if your body has nothing to flush out then you will not experience bad side effects from the senna leaves. One weekend I did have a little bit of a cheat day and so because my body had some toxins to flush out, the laxative effect did work (without going into too much detail!)
After 14 days, in terms of weight loss, the result was a little disappointing. I had only lost 2lbs however my body felt energised, my skin was very clear and it was nice to experience a bit of clean eating. I would definitely do the detox again but maybe next time try the 28 day detox. I would definitely recommend Bootea if you would like to cleanse your body but don’t expect a massive amount of weight loss if you are only doing the 14 day detox.
I have purchased the Bootea shake so keep an eye-out for my review!
